Grade 10 Hmwk ~ Due October 12th

We have just read Issac Asimov's "All the Troubles of the World".  For the next few classes we will explore the genre of science fiction.  For homework, search through magazines or visit the web to find an interesting article about technology.  Where is technology taking us?  How does it shape our lives?  How is changing the way we live and how might it change our future?  Consider also, some of the social and ethical implications that arise through advances in technology.  Please be prepared to share your article AND your thoughts about it.  What connections can you make between issues with technology today and the underlying message presented in Asimov's story?

Rules & Laws: What is their role?

Martin Luther King once said: "Just as it is the duty of all men to obey just laws, so it is the duty of all men to disobey unjust laws". [Presumably he meant women too! ;)] It seems true that rules and laws play a pivotal role in maintaining some sense of social order. What if there were no laws? Would chaos unfold? Would the world as we know it fall apart? Or would life take on some new kind of structure, maybe something we haven't imagined yet? What is the role of rules and laws in our society?
